Veteran and Military Family Organization Congratulates Candidates it Endorsed and Welcomes to Congress Those Successful in Their Elections.

Washington, DC:

During the 2006 mid-term elections, Veterans and Military Families for Progress (VMFP) endorsed 49 Democrat and Republican candidates for national office who are veterans, members of military families, or outstanding Veterans’ advocates. Their involvement in the electoral process is truly valued and appreciated by VMFP.

While we celebrate the success of a large number of these campaigns, we especially commend their willingness to place themselves “once more into the breach”, and we thank all of those endorsed for their heroic efforts to help change the direction of this country. We look forward to the service of these endorsed candidates who succeeded in this mission and will be serving in the 110th Congress, as noted below:

Veterans:
Wayne Gilchrest (R- Maryland 1st)
Tim Walz (D – Minnesota 1st)
Joe Sestak (D – Pennsylvania 7th)
Patrick Murphy (D – Pennsylvania 8th)
Chris Carney (D – Pennsylvania 10th)
Jim Webb ( D – Virginia )

Military Family Members:
Jerry McNerney (D – California 11th)
Tim Mahoney (D – Florida 16th)
Bruce Braley (D – Iowa 1st)
Amy Klobuchar (D – Minnesota)
Carol Shea-Porter (D – New Hampshire 1st)
Paul Hodes (D – New Hampshire 2nd)
Zack Space (D – Ohio 18th)
Sheldon Whitehouse (D – Rhode Island)

Veteran Advocates
Chris Smith (R – New Jersey 4th)
Ciro Rodriguez (D – Texas 23rd)

In addition to endorsement by our national organization, many of our members volunteered to put their “boots on the ground” to help various individual campaigns. By all reports, their efforts were gratifying and exhilarating –this is a reflection of the spirit and honor with which all endorsed candidates entered this campaign for office. Some of their stories have been posted on our website (www.vmfp.org)

Incoming Chairman of the House Veterans Affairs Committee Congr. Bob Filner (51st Distr. CA) spoke highly of VMFP’s mission recently. “I stand ready to work with you to address the many needs and concerns of our nation's veterans, service members and their families. Please call me whenever I can be of assistance,” he said.
